The "artist"....
Being a child in preschool has given me an irrational idea that I could be anything I wanted to be when I grew up. While other children chose to be doctors, vets, and presidents, I wanted to be an artist. Being the odd child out, I went with idea and started to explore my imagination. After years of doing what I love and basically all I’ve known, I have a chance to be what I aspired to be as a child. Creativity does not flow through me; it is one of the traits I had to learn as an "artist".
For most of my work I get my ideas while trying to sleep. I second guess my self a lot and get many second opinions before I will have an idea to sketch out where it has to be perfect before I can do anything else.
In today's society it is extremely difficult to be different from the next person and even harder to get someone not to copy you. Many of my ideas get tossed out the window because they are too over-done, or someone else is already doing it. I am now realizing that I can take a different twist on the used and abused topics and make them my own. My work gives me the ability to open up and finally tell the story I have been longing to tell, and tell the frustration I have. Originality is lurking around the corner, but we’re all too nervous to be the first to test it out, I'll admit that.
My biggest inspiration as an artist is by far MC Escher. I have always seen his work as an illusion and something that makes the mind go into uncharted territories. Through his inspiration, I have discovered that you do not need color in a piece of art to show emotion but you need to add the detail in the expression. I have now become more comfortable working in black and white because of this inspiration, but find it interesting to dabble in the color wheel.
